And it seems there are still some major ones ahead.....but after watching this video on change it re-enforces what I know and that change is good and it it helps us learn and become stronger. The rest is just sand.

A professor stood before his philosophy class with several items in front of him. Once the class began, he silently picked up a very large, empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. The entire class agreed that it was full.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly; the pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. "Yes it is" they responded quickly.

The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. The sand filled up everything else. He looked around the classroom and asked "Now, is the jar full?" The students responded more slowly this time with a questioning "Yes?"

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured their entire content into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to understand that this jar represents your life:

1. The golf balls are the important things - your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions. If you lost everything else but them, your life would still be full.

2. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your possessions

3. The sand is everything else--the small stuff. If you put the sand into the jar first, there would be no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are truly important."

Now, with the full attention of the entire class, the professor continued, "Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18 holes. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first - the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired "What about the coffee? What does it represent."

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

Quoted from the Sikhism Philosophy Network

0 Comments - Leave a Comment
Mon, 12 Jan 2009 18:10:57 -0600If Only...http://www.celebrategoodnews.com/tracyj/blog/2008/01/01/if_only

Creating a Legacy...on News Years Eve day I was driving my son, Miles from San Diego back to Palm Desert , CA. where he lives and is a Junior at Palm Desert High School. He had spent the last 2 weeks with me at our home in San Diego celebrating the Christmas Holiday.

We started talking about the upcoming year and what we would like to accomplish and new things to experience. It was rewarding as a mother to be able to have this type of conversation with her son...a soon to be 17 year old. He was very receptive of the conversation and I am sure it has envoked futher thought. We went through the five areas in our lives in review and for the future:

Social

Mental

Physical

Financial

Spiritual

I am thankful to Sheri and Imo Sharman who have been there for us in support ever since Miles was 7 years old. He has attended many trainings and learned how to continue to dream, create and achieve goals, and develop amazing leadership skills.

The movie "The Secret" has made a huge impact in my life over the past 18 months. I have been fortunate to have gotten to personally know John Assarf from the movie, the man who describes what a Vision Board is and the importance of having one. We learned many years ago from Sheri that having a "Dream Board" or Vision board is so important. When two very successful people have made this process a part of their lives...it must be a powerful tool to use.

While talking and making that 2 1/2 hour drive with Miles I realized what a blessing it has been to have this type of awareness that I could share with my son over they past 10 years and the difference it has made in my family's life.

I hope everyone in the early days of this New Year will take the time to really define your life's passion, create your Vision/Dream Boards and create goals and steps to achieve them in the five major areas of your life and most importantly start now in working with you children...no matter what age. What a gift we can give our children by doing this and in turn they will teach their children and then their children the same.

If only.... I would have had this knowledge and support growing up from the age of 7- 17!

Create a Legacy in 2008!

Tracy

0 Comments - Leave a Comment
Tue, 01 Jan 2008 17:21:19 -0600
