How exciting it was a couple of weeks ago to honor the 83rd. birthday of our dear friend Dr. Werner Langer. We gave him the gift of a goat! The goat does not go directly to him but to a family in need in another country. It was really quite simple to do this. We had found a great website Heifer International. From there we clicked on "GIVE" and selected our living gift that would be given in Dr. Werner's name. We chose a goat, but you can also select flocks of chicks, geese, ducks, lambs, goats, bees, cows etc.
If you are looking for a gift to give some who has everything...then this is the site to go to. The gift keeps on giving making a huge impact on providing food and income to a family.
An example: In Tanzania, Omari and Kulwa were struggling to raise a family on just 50 cents a day. With the training and a flock of chicks they received from Heifer, egg sales have boosted their daily income to $2. so now they can buy food and still pay school fees. Now, through passing on the gift, (they share some of the offspring of the chickens) all of the children in their village are going to school.
Please take a few minutes to check out this organization's web site....it is truly amazing all that they are doing around the world!
Please join us in posting "Good News" to this site and shaing the website with others.
Have a great day,

Greetings,
I just wanted to share with all of you an update on Sasha Blair's goodwill in Thailand. Some of you may be following my blogs on the orphans in Thailand and what Sasha and others from the Toys for Thailand Foundation are accomplishing. See my December 29th blog.
My mother, Imo and I are close friends with Sasha and have made it one of our goals this tear to continue our support in helping create a safe and clean environment for theses orphans. The pictures show the kids repainting the boys dorm and getting ready for their new beds. Sasha and the team provided a very rare treat, Pizza for the children who helped with the clean up and painting. Through generous donations Toys for Thailand was able to purchase 100 new beds and have a new bathroom constructed.
The Wat Don Chan orphanage currently is the home to over 650 children. Sasha says another 100 are expected this year. Please watch this short video Click Here and see how an idea and actions of just a few people have changed so many lives. My mom and I invite you to join us in helping make a better life for these children.
Sasha will return any day now to San Diego her home. She has been in Thailand since Dec. 14th overseeing the project. Last week when I emailed her to see what was on her wish list for 2009 she replied with the wish of another 100 beds. The cost of a bed for a child is just $35.00 a very small portion of what a bed would cost here in the United States. If you would like to contribute Click Here www.toysforthailand.org.

Greetings!
I love the Ocean! I grew up and still live in Carlsbad, CA. which is located right on the ocean. Growing up as a small girl the ocean and it's beaches were my playground. Even today as I write this blog...I have just returned from playing at the beach with my 1 year old Grandson, Merric. I have always been concerned about our environment and the health and well being of all the creatures in the sea and the water itself.
I am very please to support the Ocean Futures Society. I urge you to tour their website and find out more and you too can help support this amazing miracle.....the ocean.
For over 60 years, Jean-Michel Cousteau, his father and family have been part of the greatest exploration of the ocean in all of history. Jean-Michel's father, Jacques Cousteau, said, "People protect what they love." Realizing that "We can't protect what we don't yet understand," Jean-Michel Cousteau has dedicated Ocean Futures Society to advancing his family's legacy for a world increasingly in need of information and inspiration.
We do know that the health of the oceans is declining due to human impact. The planet is sick and its temperature is rising. WE need everyone to do what ever they can to make sure our ocean's have a healthy future and will be a part of our legacy to our family for generations to come.
Here are the Ocean Futures priorities.....please take time to view their website and perhaps make them part of your priorities too.

- Clean Water, the essence of life and a birthright for everyone, must become available to all people now.
- Coastal Marine Habitats, coral reefs, estuaries and wetlands, must receive protection in order to assure the ocean's quality of life and thus our own.
- Marine Mammals, our biological counterparts in the sea, must be protected from human impact.
- Sustainable Fisheries must be created to reflect our ability to manage natural resources wisely.

REFLECTIONS

And it's winter before we know it....
You know, time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing of years.
It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. And yet, in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all.....
And I have glimpses of how it was back then, and of all my hopes and dreams.....But, here it is.....the winter of my life and it catches me by surprise.... How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my babies go? And, where did my youth go?
I remember well......
Seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.
But, here it is.....
Wife retired and she's really getting gray..... She moves slower and I see an older woman now. She's in better shape than me.....but, I see the great change. Not the one I married who was young and vibrant...
But, like me, her age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd be. Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore.....it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will..... I just fall asleep where I sit!
And so, now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things. I know that though the winter has come, and I'm not sure how long it will last, and when it's over.....it over!
Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done.....things I should have done. But, indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done.
It's all in a lifetime.....So, if you're not in your winter yet......Let me remind you.....
It will be here faster than you think! So........ Whatever you would like to accomplish in your life.....Please do it quickly! Life goes by quickly. So..... Do what you can today, because you can never be sure whether this is your winter or not!
You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life.....
So, live for good today and, Say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember....... "Life is a gift to you.
The way you live your life is your gift to those who came after.
Make it a fantastic one!"
LIVE IT WELL!!

In November of 2007 I was introduced to a great organization called Kiva. Kiva lenables a person to lend money to a specific entrepreneur of your choice in a developing world.
Your loan of $25.00 will help empower them to lift themselves out of poverty. As your loans are paid back you can redistribute the money to others in need of a loan.
It has been very rewarding as an entrepreneur myself who was once empowered to make a better life for me and my small son to now be able to help others in so many ways and Kiva being one of them.
I encourage you all to take a closer look at this wonderful opportunity to help others.

A story from Jeff that I would like to share:

Jeff & Freedom!
When Freedom came in she could not stand. Both wings were broken, her left wing in 4 places. She was emaciated and covered in lice. We made the decision to give her a chance at life, so I took her to the vet's office. From then on, I was always around her. We had her in a huge dog carrier with the top off, and it was loaded up with shredded newspaper for her to lie in. I used to sit and talk to her, urging her to live, to fight; and she would lay there looking at me with those big brown eyes. We also had to tube feed her for weeks.
This went on for 4-6 weeks, and by then she still couldn't stand. It got to the point where the decision was made to euthanize her if she couldn't stand in a week. You know you don't want to cross that line between torture and rehab, and it looked like death was winning. She was going to be put down that Friday, and I was supposed to come in on that Thursday afternoon. I didn't want to go to the center that Thursday, because I couldn't bear the thought of her being euthanized; but I went anyway, and when I walked in everyone was grinning from ear to ear. I went immediately back to her dowl cage; and there she was, standing on her own, a big beautiful eagle. She was ready to live. I was just about in tears by then. That was a very good day.
We knew she could never fly, so the director asked me to glove train her. I got her used to the glove, and then to jesses, and we started doing education programs for schools in western Washington. We wound up in the newspapers, radio (believe it or not) and some TV. Miracle Pets even did a show about us.
In the spring of 2000, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. I had stage 3, which is not good (one major organ plus everywhere), so I wound up doing 8 months of chemo. Lost the hair - the whole bit. I missed a lot of work. When I felt good enough, I would go to Sarvey and take Freedom out for walks. Freedom would also come to me in my dreams and help me fight the cancer. This happened time and time again.
Fast forward to November 2000, the day after Thanksgiving, I went in for my last checkup. I was told that if the cancer was not all gone after 8 rounds of chemo, then my last option was a stem cell transplant. Anyway, they did the tests; and I had to come back Monday for the results. I went in Monday, and I was told that all the cancer was gone. Yahoo!
So the first thing I did was get up to Sarvey and take the big girl out for a walk. It was misty and cold. I went to her flight and jessed her up, and we went out front to the top of the hill. I hadn't said a word to Freedom, but somehow she knew. She looked at me and wrapped both her wings around me to where I could feel them pressing in on my back (I was engulfed in eagle wings), and she touched my nose with her beak and stared into my eyes, and we just stood there like that for I don't know how long. That was a magic moment. We have been soul mates ever since she came in. This is a very special bird.
On a side note: I have had people who were sick come up to us when we are out, and Freedom has some kind of hold on them. I once had a guy who was terminal come up to us and I let him hold her. His knees just about buckled and he swore he could feel her power coarse through his body. I have so many stories like that.

I never forget the honor I have of being so close to such a magnificent spirit as Freedom's.
Hope you enjoy this.
